Gloucestershire Constabulary is the first force in the UK to begin using sophisticated new vetting management software to ensure a safe environment for its staff and members of the public.

Gloucestershire is using the web-based Core-Vet system to centralise its entire vetting process and speed up the retrieval of information regarding job applicants and visitors to its premises.

It has been working closely with WPC Software to develop the software which has also now been adopted by six more forces throughout the UK. Sussex, Grampian, Northumbria, South Wales, Warwickshire and the Scottish Police Services Authority have all adopted Core-Vet since it's launch by Gloucestershire.

The system allows police forces to build up a complete history of a particular applicant, which can encompass everything from previous applications and addresses to previous checks and clearance levels. It also reminds vetting operators of checks and clearance levels that are due for renewal or review, and can print certificates, letters and bespoke reports.

Staff in reception areas can quickly validate a contractor's vetting and identity, which is assisted by Core-Vet's ability to display photographs. Users can also provide a quick response to enquiries from other police forces, while maintaining a full historical trail of force to force checks.

"Core-Vet provides us with a central vetting system that will make the management and retrieval of information far simpler," said Bill Moir, Gloucestershire Constabulary's Information Security and Vetting Manager. "We no longer have to search for information across different systems and databases - it's all there at the click of a button.

"The system has also been rolled out to all our receptionists who can tell instantly whether or not an outside contractor has been cleared for unescorted access. The system therefore makes a significant contribution to the safety of our personnel and members of the public visiting our premises."
