WPC SOFTWARE IS RECOGNISED AS AN INVESTOR IN PEOPLE   3rd November 2005

Keynsham-based WPC Software Ltd has been recognised as an Investor in People organisation after achieving the Standard in October 2005. This acknowledges that WPC embraces a commitment to training and development and looks forward to clear benefits that improved people performance delivers.

WPC embarked on the Investors in People programme as the best way of having an external view of its approach to people development, training and management. According to Alan Walker, Managing Director, "the contribution of our people is the cornerstone of our business, and maximum people-effectiveness is vital in our fast-moving, ever-changing marketplace".

Ruth Spellman, Chief Executive of Investors in People UK, comments: "Putting people development at the heart of every function is the most cost-effective decision a business can ever make. Employees are central to business success so it is vital for staff to be skilled, flexible and motivated; this can be achieved through planned and consistent training and development. The Investors in People framework ensures that if you look after your inputs the outputs will look after themselves".

The standard is based on three key principles for people development:

  • Developing strategies to improve the organisation's performance
  • Taking action to improve performance
  • Evaluating the impact on the organisation's performance.
  • Research conducted among recognised Investor in People organisations has shown that 80 per cent have increased levels of customer satisfaction and 70 per cent have improved their competitive edge and productivity. (Source: Building Capacity for the 21st Century, CREATE 1999).

WPC made full use of the support available from their regional BusinessLink organisation, Business West, while working towards the Investors in People standard. The assessment, against the latest version of the standard introduced a year ago, was carried out by Quality South West.
