The COMPACT API Web Service has been developed to enable forces to interface easily with the COMPACT database and make it possible to provide a mobile missing person solution.
The COMPACT API is a generic interface to allow forces, either via a third party provider, or from WPC Software, to develop applications that can help view, manage or even up-date data in the COMPACT database, such as a Mobile COMPACT solution for Blackberries or PDAs. The purpose of a mobile COMPACT solution is to provide the necessary elements of the missing persons system directly to officers in the field.

The API will enable a number of different functions to be completed on a mobile device, including:
- Ability to view the Briefing Sheet showing all the current mispers filtered by date and location.
- Ability to view person details, their latest report and their latest risk assessment.
- Ability to manage misper tasks.
The new API means that forces can develop their own missing persons application for use on a Blackberry or PDA that links seamlessly with the main COMPACT database. Alternatively, as well as supplying the interface WPC can produce its own mobile COMPACT application.
